Who Am I?
As a US trained K-12 Special Education teacher, a CERI certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist, and the founder of Dyslexia PowerUp, I am passionate about teaching children with Dyslexia to read, spell, and write with confidence. My life’s work is driven by the belief that every child has the right to learn to read and receive evidence-based literacy instruction and support, so they can succeed in both school and life.
I have twenty-three years of teaching experience working as an international school learning support specialist at premier international schools in Asia and the Middle East. Since 1992, I have been instructing primary and middle school learners with a wide range of needs with general and specific learning disabilities, speech and language needs, attention disorder, executive functioning difficulties, social communication needs, social-emotional and behavioral difficulties, sensory processing issues, motor skill problems, and English language needs.
I have developed and managed school-based Learning Support / Special Education programs and services for students with diverse learning needs from grades 1 to 12 in international schools. I worked in partnership with parents and teachers by advising, guiding, coaching, and supporting them using the collaborative consultation model. I offered home intervention programs and school liaison services to local and expat families and provided testing services to homeschooling expat families.
Throughout my teaching career, I have always had a deep passion for working with children with Dyslexia. Becoming certified at the Associate level through the Orton-Gillingham Academy, USA was a life-changing experience. It also reignited my lifelong passion for teaching children with Dyslexia. I am currently pursuing advanced training at the Certified level with the Orton-Gillingham Academy, so I can continue to serve and support children with Dyslexia. I am also a certified EBLI Interventionist, providing structured, evidence-based, and highly effective literacy instruction that accelerates learning and closes gaps efficiently.
I am a professional member of the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA, USA), International Dyslexia Association (IDA, USA), British Dyslexia Association (BDA, UK), National Association of Special Education (NASET, USA), Reading League (TRL, USA), and the Register of Educational Therapists (Asia) (RETA, Singapore). I am a verified service provider with IDA, CERI, OGA (USA), and RETA (Singapore).
I look forward to getting to know your child and helping them succeed! I am excited to change the trajectory of your child's life! I also hope to have a positive and powerful impact on your journey as a parent to a child with Dyslexia.
Please do not hesitate to get in contact if you have questions about my services, Orton-Gillingham, EBLI, Structured Literacy, or Dyslexia

"Rachel is one of those teachers you come across once in a great while. She is loved by students and parents. A____ loves her because she is kind, loving, fun, and cares about him. Rachel gets to know him in her class as a whole person. She is able to see exactly what my son needs for his future and her whole teaching approach involves finding and using A____’s unique strengths to help him overcome his struggles and develop a positive self-concept. My son had some behavioral problems in his earlier grades. A____ has however shown a marked improvement over the last 6 months under Rachel guidance with an improvement in both his reading and behavior. The change in his performance I believe is a direct result of Rachel’s ability to both understand and guide my son using positive reinforcement and encouragement in a way that suited his individual needs."
